The Sith Holocaust was a major event that occured in the history of the Star Wars franchise during the Old Republic Era. Immediately after the Great Hyperspace War, the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order reigned victorious but, the Supreme Chancellor Pultimo, had noticed that there were still surviving remnants of the Sith Empire and sent in Republic and Jedi forces to the planet to wipe them out.
Overview
During the Great Hyperspace War, the newly formed Sith Empire had waged a military campaign against the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order in hopes of wipping both of them out. Despite putting up a good fight, the Sith Empire was ultimately defeated and collapsed after the war's end in 5000 BBY. Supreme Chancellor Pultimo however, was unsatisfied with the results and noticed that there was still surviving remnants of the Sith Empire.
The Sith were no longer a threat as their empire lied in ruins and the small fragments had planned no further conflict with the Republic nor the Jedi, but the Chancellor was not willing to let them live and as a result, he deployed the Republic military to Korriban, Ziots, and other Sith Worlds where they systemmatically slaughtered the remnants of the Sith Empire and the Sith civilization. Without hesitation, the Republic forces went in and slaughtered all of the remaining Sith forces. Many Sith warriors had done suicide attacks to stall off the Republic forces but they only delayed the inevitable as the Republic won, Sith civilization lied in ruins, and the last of the Sith Empire had dissolved as well.
Aftermath
Following the Sith Holocaust, the Sith were now too weak to be considered a threat by Pultimo and he was satisfied. All of the Sith worlds were eventually absorbed and annexed into the Galactic Republic and helped grow the galactic government. During this time, the Sith Order and the Sith Species had went into an exodus to survive and thus, they were able to avoid extinction and keep their religion alive and well. The Sith would remain in hiding until 4980 BBY where a new Sith Empire was formed from the ashes of the old one but this time, stronger, powerful, and now a more prominent threat to the Republic and thus, the Great Galactic War would begin.
